Happy Birthday to Me!

This year for my birthday, I took matters into my own hands and ordered myself a birthday cake from Caroline’s Cakes.  I have heard about her cakes for a long time, and decided it was high time that I try one.

I needed to have my cake delivered to my granny’s house because of my work schedule. Sometimes the delivery man will leave things on our porch, and there was no way I was going to lose this cake!   When she called to tell me it had arrived, she told me that the box was gigantic and looked like it held a cake big enough to feed an army. Let’s just say, I couldn’t wait to go pick it up after work!

Now, I knew that the box would have to be big enough to hold the cake and whatever packaging it needed, but I have to say that once the box was open, I was a little disappointed at the size of the cake tin nestled inside.  I’m not saying that it was tiny or anything, but my eyes were comparing it to the size of the box it came in, so of course it looked small.  I had never ordered a cake, or any kind of perishable food online before, so I wasn’t sure how it would be packaged.

The only problem I had been deciding on was which cake I wanted for my birthday, and luckily at Caroline’s Cakes you can order half cakes, so that made my decision so much easier.  I ordered their famous 7-Layer Caramel Cake for the first half, and the 7-Layer Delight for the second half.  The hardest decision I made was which side to cut first. Ha-ha

Needless to say, once the cake was cut, I was not the least bit disappointed by the taste.  The caramel layers were like heaven in my mouth.  It was at this moment, I heard harps playing and was silently thanking Elvis Duran for mentioning the cakes on the radio and Oprah for featuring them in her magazine in the issue of, “The Favorite Things.”  Are Caroline’s Cakes really worth all the hype?   YES!  YES!  YES!

I think for my next birthday, I will definitely order my own cake again.  After all, I’m in my Fabulous Forties and I know what I like, and what I want.
